A NYC Birthday Photoshoot with Ryder & Friends: Ballet, Movement, and Magic
Photographed by Sarah Marie Picard | Styled by Jewels
Last year in New York City, I photographed a young dancer named Ryder. There was something luminous about her—quiet strength, elegance, and a grounded presence that filled the frame.
After our session, her mom, Jewels, reached out with a beautiful idea: a birthday gift for Ryder that wouldn’t just be something to receive, but something to experience.
A Studio Session Rooted in Style and Story
Jewels envisioned a celebration that would honor Ryder as an artist, and include the dancers who move alongside her. She gathered six of Ryder’s closest friends and invited me back to NYC to make the vision real.
Jewels and I met to shape the styling and creative direction. We aimed for something elevated—fashion-forward, rooted in movement, and deeply personal.
Movement, Light, and Presence
On the day of the shoot, the studio was filled with soft tulle, whispered ballet movements, and the quiet electricity of presence. These young dancers moved with ease and intention, each one bringing her full self to the space.
And Ryder—surrounded by love, held by friendship, and fully herself—glowed.
